Wake up and Really Smell the Coffee - 1

For most coffee lovers, a perfectly blended cup of coffee will always have a unique disntictive aroma that can ignite the senses. It has a roasted scent that one can sell few meters away, and the taste is rich, full, and with a blissful aftertaste.


Whether cold or hot, blended coffee has now become a popular beverage in the country. It is now a daily habit for many people to try superlative coffee flavors fom different coffee shops. But for experts, coffee is not just a mere beverage, it is an art - its freshness may vary depending on the process of cultivations up to the brewing. How can you distinguish a fresh best-tasting coffee is by knowing the origin of the coffee beans and the blending.

Like your favorite fruits and vegetables, coffee is seasonal. It has a short shelf life and , in its best forms, can taste wildly different depending on its origin, roast level, and blend components. You'll notice the fresh roasted beans are much oiler, and it must be consumed [within] two weeks after roasting for best tasting result.


The most commonly used coffee beans in the Philippines are from Arabica and Robusa trees. The others are Excelsa and Liberica (kapeng barako) beans. Arabica (Coffee Arabica) is considered better, is most used, and the more expensive of the four. These trees grow in semitropical climates near the equator, both in the western and eastern hemispheres, at high altitudes. Ripe Arabica cherries are moniored and picked at intervals to prevent them from falling and spoiling.
